Going down the Tsiribihina River sure is a singular way to explore the Southwest region of Madagascar.

The reddish-coloured river crosses the Bemaraha plateau, digging deep groove marks on its path that are transforming, as time goes by, into cliffs covered by a rich vegetation and home to a diverse fauna and flora.

You will, among other things, be able to admire absolutely jaw-dropping sunsets, as well as the world-renowned Baobab Alley. End your journey by relaxing at the Kimony beach.

Day 1: Antananarivo - Miandrivazo

Departure to Antsirabe, the water city of Madagascar.

On the road: typical highlands sceneries, with rice fields and typical houses.
Visit of a forging workshop (cooking pots) and of a confectionery of “bonbon gasy” (local treats) in Ambatolampy. Lunch in Antsirabe and visit of a lapidary.

Resuming of the road trip towards Miandrivazo in the afternoon: semi-arid sceneries typical of the Southwest of Madagascar.

Diner and night at the hotel.

Day 2: River Tsiribihina

Start of the river-crossing river on a barge. During the crossing, you will have the opportunity to observe different types of waterfowls. A stopover in a fishermen village will let you experience the warm welcoming of the Malagasy people.

Towards the end of the day: sunset and camping set up on a white sandbank.

Diner and night at the hotel.

Day 3: River Tsiribihina

Resuming of the crossing with a deviation towards the immense cascade and the natural pool, while observing small baobab forests and lemurs. Diner and night at the hotel.

Day 4: River Tsiribihina – Bekopaka

End of the crossing in the morning. Transfer by car (4×4) to Belo-sur-Tsiribihina towards the village of Bekopaka, boarding point to visit the National Park of the Tsingy of Bemaraha.

Day 5: Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park

All-day visit of the Great Tsingy: a national park listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1990.Karstic peaks scenery (limestone). Fauna and flora: lemurs, birds, deciduous plants that lose all their leaves during the winter. Diner and night at the hotel.

Day 6: Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park

In the morning, canoe outing in the Manambolo canyon and visit of some caves. Lunch back at the hotel.

Free time during the afternoon. Diner and night at the hotel.

Day 7: Bekopaka – Morondava

Road trip to Morondava. Ferry crossing over the Tsiribihina River followed by a dirt trail. Crossing of the baobab alley and sunset – one of the most jaw-dropping scenery this region has to offer. Unique opportunity to take pictures in front of the famous lovers’ baobabs of Madagascar. Diner and night at the hotel.

Day 8: Morondava

Relaxing day at the beautiful Kimony beach in Morondava. Diner and night at the hotel. 

Jour 9: Morondava – Antananarivo

Transfer to the airport of Morondava and flight to Antananarivo. Depending on the flight schedule, visit of Antananarivo, the capital city and its neighbourhood: the royal palace, the craft market, etc.
